NYC Department of Consumer & Worker Protection
In the U.S. unions don’t have the influence they once had, but workers still need to be protected from predatory employment practices. Some progressive states and municipalities have filled the vacuum by passing robust labor laws that protect all workers, especially those at the lower end of the income scale. The City of New York wanted to get the word out that everyone—employees and employers alike—should take them seriously. We took a straightforward approach to the creative since in many cases the people who need help are new to the country and English is a second language. The subjects were portrayed as proud and confident, which gives them a sense of dignity—something everyone should have when it comes to making a living.
